Mudgee Golf Course is widely regarded as one of the best courses in inland NSW. It has played host to the NSW Seniors Championships on three occasions and the men’s and ladies NSW Mid-Amateur Championships in 2014. The golf club was founded in 1906 while noted architect Arthur East was commissioned to design the current layout in 1955.

The MGC was the first club in NSW to obtain a special Junior Course Rating which allows our young juniors to play a competitive round on our fantastic course, as well as allowing them to gain a handicap.

The Mudgee Open Amateur, a 36 hole NSW Vardon event held each October long weekend, attracts a strong field and has been played since 1930. Harry Berwick, one of Australia’s greatest amateurs was twice crowned champion. Other winners Jeff Wagner, Peter Mayson, Tony Wells, Damien Swadling, Mark Gilson and Troy Cox have all gone on to join the professional ranks.

Course Guide

Hole 1 | Par 4 | 329m	A tight driving hole requiring a long iron or fairway metal to reach the corner of the 45 degree dogleg to the right. This leaves a short iron to a small green, guarded on the right by a huge radiata pine. Big hitters chance their arm in carrying the corner from the tee. A relatively flat green.
Hole 2 | Par 4 | 324m	A sharp dogleg to the left. Heavily timbered all along the left and the course water storage to be avoided on the right from the tee. Tee shots left of the mound in the centre of the fairway are rewarded with a short iron to a narrow, severely sloping green. Out of bounds guards the right side for second shots.
Hole 3 | Par 4 | 338m	A straight forward par 4 with a generous fairway and a bunker 220m out on the left. Big hitters are rewarded by carrying the terrace and gaining extra metres as the fairways dips towards the green. A short iron to another green that slopes severely from back to front. Putts from above the hole are to be avoided.
Hole 4 | Par 3 | 168m	A long tee and long two tiered green make for varied yardages here so club selection is important. A picturesque hole protected right of the green by a grove of sheoaks. The first hole to cross Redbank Creek which winds its way through the course.
Hole 5 | Par 5 | 497m	Out of bounds along the entire length of the hole on the right. Dense natural timbers line the fairway on both sides from tee to green. From the tee a natural contour embankment catches all but the longest of drives. A genuine 3 shot par 5 from below the bank, while often reached in two from above. Another steep green sloping to the front.
Hole 6 | Par 4 | 401m	The longest par 4 on the course with a wide fairway that is heavily tree lined on both sides. A long second shot, slightly downhill to a flat green. Lake McCully is positioned behind and below the green.
Hole 7 | Par 3 | 200m	Slightly downhill over the creek to a green that is best attacked from below the hole. The green is surrounded by large trees. A tough par 3 due to its length and the green.
Hole 8 | Par 5 | 479m	A sweeping double dogleg to the right. Ideal tee shot is left of centre to provide more scope for the second shot. Another heavily timbered hole with two large eucalypts protecting the right side on second shots. A very narrow sloping green will test the best of putters.
Hole 9 | Par 4 | 375m	A straight away hole that is tree lined on both sides. A second shot to a narrow green with a steep embankment left of the green that drops down to the creek.
Hole 10 | Par 4 | 340m	A drive from an elevated tee to a generous fairway guarded along the right by Redbank Creek. Drive is best positioned left of centre for a second shot to a green protected by large trees that overhang the front right corner. Two bunkers provide added difficulty as does an embankment of the creek that is adjacent to the green.
Hole 11 | Par 3 | 146m	A slightly uphill hole where the creek crosses the fairway then meanders around close to the right of the green. Another scenic par 3 with a variety of native and deciduous trees masking the green.
Hole 12 | Par 4 | 393m	An uphill par 4 rated hardest on the course that plays longer that it measures. Huge eucalypts line the fairway and the green is another that slopes severely from back to front. A large gum hangs over the front right of the green. It is imperative to leave yourself an uphill putt on this treacherous green.
Hole 13 | Par 5 | 542m	A great par 5 surrounded with plenty of difficulty. Out of bounds along the right side, with some protection from two rows of pine trees. The left hand side has a large number of trees in an area where a clear shot is rarely offered. The second shot is played to a narrowing fairway before a third shot to the green. The green is a mystery to many with some putts appearing to break uphill!
Hole 14 | Par 4 | 325m	The tightest driving hole on the course through a narrow shoot with a slight dogleg to the right 220m from the tee. A huge gum tree guards the corner of the dogleg. The green is small with a severe slope, particularly on the front half. Only a short hole but par is a good score here.
Hole 15 | Par 4 | 352m	A straight, slightly downhill hole to a relatively flat green. Heavily timbered to the left and particularly to the right from the tee. The embankment of the creek that comes within 5m of the left edge of the green is to be avoided. Step greenside banks make pitching to the green difficult.
Hole 16 | Par 4 | 338m	A classic hole and the beginning of Mudgee’s famous three finishing holes. Drive through a narrow shoot close to the tee to a fairway with a natural diagonal contour splitting the fairway in two. Redbank Creek runs along the length of the hole on the right hand side and is to be avoided. Tee shot needs to be left of centre and on the top tier to open up the second shot to a narrow green. An amazing piece of terrain showcased by beautiful trees combine to produce a post card worthy hole.
Hole 17 | Par 3 | 127m	The famous “Donga” plays downhill over the creek to a green that is nestled close to its banks. The right side of the green is guarded by a large gum tree, the back drops off sharply to the donga and a large mound protects the back left of the green. A memorable par 3 that is the signature hole of Mudgee.
Hole 18 | Par 4 | 374m	A sweeping dogleg to the left that perfectly accommodates a right to left shape from the tee. The further left the shorter the second shot. A flat green surrounded by mounds left, right and behind.
